100% on-device transcription

Whisper large-v3 runs locally on Apple Silicon. Your voice is never uploaded, streamed, or stored on anyone else’s server.

Local AI polish, default-on

Cleanup runs in-process with a local Gemma model — grammar, punctuation and filler-words fixed offline. Most local-first apps do no cleanup, or send your text to the cloud. Saydrop does neither.

Prefer Gemini? Flip one setting and add your own API key. Off by default — your call, your key, never ours.

One key, two gestures

Hold to talk for a quick phrase, or double-tap to latch hands-free and double-tap again to stop. No mode to set — the key does both.

Personal dictionary

Names, jargon and product terms — one per line. It biases transcription and pins spelling during cleanup, re-read on every dictation.

Mixed-language dictation

Dictate across a configured set (de, en, fr, it…) and Saydrop auto-detects per clip — or pin a single language.

Most dictation apps send your voice to a server. Saydrop sends it nowhere.

Privacy

Private
by architecture.

Privacy isn’t a setting you switch on — it’s where the work happens. Both transcription and cleanup run on your Mac, offline, by default.

  • Audio and transcripts never leave your Mac with the default local backend — no account, no upload, no telemetry.
  • Cleanup runs offline in-process; disable it entirely and keep raw local transcription.
  • Logs are redacted and stay on your machine (~/Library/Logs/saydrop.log).
  • If macOS hasn’t granted paste permission yet, your text is left on the clipboard rather than lost.

The safe default isn’t a feature you pay extra for. It’s the only way Saydrop works.
